Coop Bau+Hobby ditches nickel-cadmium batteries

The Swiss DIY store operator Coop Bau+Hobby will no longer sell cordless tools featuring nickel-cadmium batteries in future and will only stock lithium-ion tools. The chain is thus taking an important step in terms of greater energy efficiency and low environmental impact, according to a press release. The company says that lithium-ion batteries have a higher energy density and can store four times as much energy as nickel-cadmium batteries. They also discharge much more slowly and have a longer life.
