The European market leader takes over all 15 Romanian stores

The Austrian DIY market leader Baumax has sold its Romanian subsidiary with all 15 stores to the French Groupe Adeo. The European market leader has thereby prevailed against the co-bidders. Subject to the consent of the Monopolies and Mergers Commission, the entire subsidiary will be transferred to Adeo in the form of a “share deal”. The French trade group has, until now, only operated one store in Romania belonging to its main sales division Leroy Merlin. For Baumax, this is an important step in the process of implementing their restructuring plan that’s scheduled until 2016, it was announced. “We’re happy that we’ve found a very good solution for Baumax Romania and one which offers a positive future for everyone, especially the suppliers, who can continue to prove themselves on the Romanian market”, Baumax’s Ceo Michael Hürter commented on the sale. Together with the banks, Baumax can now follow through with their restructuring programme especially in the core countries of Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Slovenia.
