Austria not buying art collection

The Austrian state is not going to take over the collection of Baumax founder Essl. Consequently Karlheinz Essl, the founder of Baumax, is withdrawing his offer to sell the approximately 7 000 paintings and sculptures with a book value in excess of € 85 mio and to use the proceeds to rescue the ailing Austrian DIY retail group.
