Kingfisher, the British DIY retail group, has opened its first two Brico Dépôt stores in Romania. These are two of the 15 former Bricostore outlets that Kingfisher acquired in Romania in April 2013. They are located in Pentelimon and Orhideea, two districts of the capital Bucharest. The work of conversion had been under way since June. In the long run the British group would like to have up to 50 Brico Dépôt stores in operation in this country. “Opening our first two stores in Romania under the Brico Dépôt brand is a significant milestone for Kingfisher as we establish the first low-cost model in this market,” said Kingfisher CEO Ian Cheshire at the opening ceremony in Pantelimon. He spoke of a solid potential for growth in the Romanian home improvement market.
