Frans van Miert (photo), founder of the Netherlands magazine Mix, died on 20 September aged 81. Born in 1931 as the son of a hardware dealing family in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, he entered on a career in journalism early on and consequently earned great respect, in Germany inter alia, as the publisher of a variety of trade magazines in the fields of hardware, do-it-yourself and gardening. Even after his retirement in 2002 he remained loyal to the industry.
