Swedish chain catches up in second quarter. Further testing of Byggmax 2.0

The Swedish Byggmax DIY chain increased its sales in the second quarter by 1.9 per cent to SEK 976.0 mio. However, there was a decline of 2.5 per cent like-for-like. As a result the company’s half-year sales of SEK 1.4079 bn only just maintained the previous year’s level (-0.1 per cent). However, the chain’s six new openings during this period – five in Sweden and one in Norway – mean that there was a like-for-like minus of 4.6 per cent. Meanwhile the pilot phase of the new Byggmax 2.0 concept is continuing. It is being tested at four outlets into the autumn, following which decisions will be made about the conversion of existing stores. New stores in Sweden are to follow the new concept right from the start.
