The United Kingdom has the oldest housing stock, while houses in Spain are relatively new

The homes owned by Europeans are 40 years old on average according to data published by USP Marketing Consultancy in its monthly European Home Improvement Monitor. This research shows that Spain has the newest housing stock (0-5 years: 10 per cent, 6 – 20 years: 34 per cent). Owners in Poland and Italy also have relatively new homes. The oldest stock of housing is to be found in the United Kingdom, where 31 per cent of homes are more than 60 years old. The percentage of older homes is also relatively high in Belgium, Scandinavia and Germany, which is expected to result in a greater need for renovation and modernisation there.
