Last week saw Baumax, the Austrian DIY retailer, open two new foreign outlets at the same time. The company brought into operation a two-storey outlet in Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic. With a sales area of 15 000 m² - of which 2 000 m² is a garden centre – it is the biggest store in the Czech Republic. It replaces another branch which had become too small. Baumax arrived in the Czech Republic 21 years ago and now has 24 DIY stores in operation there. The country is the group’s biggest foreign market. The Bulgarian capital Sofia also saw a new Baumax store open for business. This one is also 15 000 m² in size. The company operates eight stores in Bulgaria, where it has been involved for five years now.
