For the first time since 2010 the German garden market will see no growth this year. According to a forecast from IFH Retail Consultants, the volume will go down by 0.4 per cent to € 18.112 bn. In 2012 the market still saw growth of 0.7 per cent to € 18.189 bn. This breaks down into € 6.264 bn spent on garden hardware, € 10.277 bn on live plants and € 1.648 bn on biochemical products. The 2012 winners in comparison with the distribution chains were the specialist garden centres, which increased their sales by 3.4 per cent to € 2.23 bn. This compares with a loss of 2.0 per cent suffered by the DIY stores, which achieved a volume of € 4.60 bn in the garden sector.
