Bellaflora delistings

Bellaflora, an Austrian garden centre operator, has delisted all its synthetic chemical pesticides and herbicides and removed them from the shelves. The 50 products affected by the move are being replaced by fully biologically-based products. The delisting of many familiar products involves “a certain risk”, as managing director Alois Wichtl admitted. However, he is reckoning with a clearly perceptible increase in customers in the medium term. Because customers don’t need to “study long contents declarations or look for quality labels. That makes their purchasing decisions much simpler”. In making this reorientation the company was advised by Global 2000, an environmental protection organisation which analysed the existing range of items and recommended the products to replace them. Bellaflora is regarded as the leading company in the Austrian garden centre market with a total of 25 branches.
