In mid-December Leroy Merlin, a French DIY retail chain (Groupe Adeo), opened its first two-storey store on Rjasanskii Prospekt in the southeast of Moscow, the capital of Russia. The outlet features a trading area of 9 000 m² and 30 000 products. DIY supplies are predominant on the ground floor, whereas the world of decoration is displayed on the floor above. This branch is the eighth Leroy Merlin store in Moscow and the surrounding area, and the 22nd overall in Russia. The opening of another branch on a trading estate in north-western Tver is planned for 30 January 2013, the first ever Leroy Merlin in the Tver region. The company is also intent on further expansion in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine: according to Interfax, XXI Century Investments of Cyprus, the holding company of the XXI Century Kiev developing company, is to establish a Leroy Merlin store in the Ukrainian capital. This store is seen as an integral part of the planned Vyrlitsa multi-functional centre, which will include a three-star hotel and five to seven office blocks, in addition to a shopping centre and a furniture store. The DIY store is intended to take up more than 15 000 m² on a site of 1.6 ha.
