The NRHA has established a volume of US $ 278.3 bn for the year 2011

The market for hardware and DIY in the USA achieved a volume of US $ 278.3 bn in 2011, in an assessment made by the North American Retail Hardware Association (NRHA). That is nearly US $ 10 bn more than two years previously; the figure calculated for 2009 was US $ 268.6 bn. By far the largest share was notched up by the DIY stores. They recorded sales of some US $ 173.1 bn in 2011. The sales made to consumers by builders’ and timber merchants amounted to US $ 67.3 bn. Here the number of outlets is almost identical with the total of around 9 750 DIY stores. The hardware dealers included as the third channel of distribution accounted for sales of US $ 37.9 bn.
