The global DIY market achieved a volume of € 391.7 bn in 2011. This is revealed in the World DIY Report 2012 produced by FEDIYMA, the European manufacturers’ association. The market volume experienced growth of four per cent when the preceding report is used as a basis. North America represents the biggest individual regional market with sales of € 234.3 bn (US € 302.7 bn), which amounts to a share of 59.8 per cent. The European market is valued at € 129.6 bn and a share of 33.1 per cent. With sales of € 18.5 bn the Asia-Pacific region represents a 4.7 per cent share of the global market.Compared with the preceding year the 4.5 per cent growth achieved by the North American market was rather stronger than that notched up by Europe, where the DIY market volume rose by 2.9 per cent. The Asian-Pacific region saw a slight reduction in market share, since the growth rate here amounted to just 2.8 per cent. China, which comes within this economic region, evidently pushed ahead more strongly since its share of 2.1 per cent is 0.3 per cent above the previous year’s figure.
