The leading German DIY retailer, Obi, is making changes to its locational development strategy. The plans envision docking several small-format stores onto individual large Obi stores and using the big locations as a hub. It is intended to implement this strategy over the next few years throughout all the countries where Obi is actively engaged. This information comes from Sergio Giroldi, speaking on behalf of Obi’s management during an interview with diy Branchenmagazin, a German trade journal. He also announced that Obi will in future pay greater attention to how far the group’s franchisees remain loyal to the system. This may involve letting franchise agreements expire or even terminating them before the agreed term.
