Internationally Praktiker, a German DIY retailer, was able to increase sales proceeds only in Ukraine, while they were down in all the other countries. Greece, Poland and Romania were especially affected. Altogether the international segment achieved a turnover of € 227.4 mio in the second quarter, 12.3 per cent less than one year previously. Sales in the international business decreased by 12.2 per cent to € 382.6 mio in the first six months. EBITA remained negative in the second quarter at -€ 13.8 mio (previous year: -€ 33.5 mio), while it came to -€ 32.1 mio for the half-year period (previous year: -€ 52.4 mio).In Germany Praktiker AG (Praktiker and Max Bahr) achieved a turnover of € 659.5 mio in the second quarter of the current financial year, amounting to 5.4 per cent down on the comparable period last year. For the first six months Praktiker Germany recorded a turnover of € 760.9 mio, or 2.6 per cent down on the previous year, while Max Bahr reported € 360.6 mio, an increase of 0.2 per cent. As the company’s announcement shows, the two brands closed with differing operating results: Praktiker Germany with EBITA of -€ 6.5 mio in the second quarter (previous year: -€ 47.8 mio) and -€ 50.5 mio in the first six months (previous year: -€ 97.1 mio), while Max Bahr declared a profit of € 14.0 mio in the second three-month period (previous year: € 9.7 mio) and of € 16.7 mio in the first six months (previous year: € 8.8 mio).
