The Linz store belonging to Baumax, the Austrian DIY market leader, has been named a Green Building Partner by the EU Commission. This is in recognition of the marked reduction in energy consumption after the store had been altered and extended in 2011. The most important measures were the installation of new windows and, above all, a new lighting system which saves up to 30 per cent of energy through adapting automatically to the current level of daylight. The heating supply was changed from natural gas to long-distance heating. The EU’s Green Building programme honours companies that invest in efforts to reduce the energy consumption and CO2 emissions of their buildings.
