Only Max Bahr, the German trading format, completed 2011 in the black

Praktiker, the German group of DIY companies that has recently hit the headlines because of its losses, reports sales of € 3.183 bn for last year, which is 7.7 per cent down on the previous year’s result. Sales in Germany amounted to € 2.289 bn, or 6.7 per cent less than the year before. The Praktiker trading format, which showed a loss of 10.3 per cent in Germany, achieved € 1.597 bn. By contrast, the Max Bahr line’s sales of € 694.8 mio in 2011 outperformed the previous year’s level by 1.4 per cent. The hoped-for improvement in the group’s international business did not eventuate. Sales fell to € 894.2 mio, leaving them 10.2 per cent below the previous year. International sales went down by 7.8 per cent in constant currency. For the full year 2012 the management is reckoning on consolidated sales that are slightly above last year’s level. This development is expected to be driven by the German market above all. In the group’s international business a realistic expectation is for sales to remain on the 2011 level.
