Last year the Coop Bau + Hobby trading format of the Swiss Coop retail group recorded sales of CHF 736 mio, or around 0.9 per cent less than the previous year. According to information from the national DIY market leader itself, however, it actually gained market share. Heavy discounting and the passing on of exchange rate advantages to customers are named as reasons for the drop in sales. Altogether the prices of more than 3 000 products were permanently reduced by up to ten per cent. The number of outlets went up by two to 72, while the sales area grew by 1.9 per cent to 292 428 m².
