There was agreement at the latest industry meeting that the market does offer opportunities

Do-it-yourself has become more popular in Greece over recent years. Financial reasons tend to be conducive to developing a DIY mentality, and even during the severe economic crisis there is still purchasing power available for the DIY market. At the sixth DIY and Home Improvement Conference, which was staged by Karydakis Publications in Athens, managing director Prokopis Karidakis substantiated this basic idea with the help of some figures. For instance, an increase of one per cent in consumers’ incomes results in their spending between 1.6 per cent and 1.8 per cent more in the marketplace. Taking plasterboard as his example he explained the potential for growth on the Greek market. Whereas per capita consumption in Greece comes to one m², it amounts to seven m² in the rest of Europe and twelve m² in America.
