Homebase, a British DIY chain, recorded sales of £ 839.6 mio in the first six months of its financial year (to 27 August 2011). That is 1.8 per cent down on the same period last year, or 0.6 per cent down in like-for-like terms. Nevertheless, the company believes that it has gained market share, particularly through investment goods such as kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms, as well as through private labels. Four per cent of sales are now generated by its online business. Homebase currently has 342 stores in operation, following one new opening. The new location is the first store to be based on a new concept that concentrates on home improvement and decoration; even the adjoining garden centre has been designed with a new layout.
