The 300 biggest retailers in the home improvement, hardware and building materials market in the USA achieved sales of US $ 185.83 bn in 2010. This means that their total sales were up again for the first time since May 2006, namely by 2.78 per cent. These figures were established by Home Channel News, a trade magazine. They also document the dominant position of market leader Home Depot (US $ 67.9 bn) and Lowe’s (US $ 48.8 bn), which together account to 62.9 per cent of total sales. Positioned third on the American market at quite some distance is Menards (US $ 8.3 bn), a privately owned company that is active in the Mid-west.
