The DIY groups’ brands do not everywhere compare favourably with other retail brands. Interbrand, a management consultancy, has evaluated the brands in several countries in its “Best Retail Brands 2011” study. This reveals that Home Depot with a brand value of US $ 20.315 bn ranks third among the table of retailers in the USA, which is headed by Walmart (US $ 142.030bn). Lowe’s at US $ 8.396 bn only makes it to number 13. Canadian Tire with a valuation of US $ 1.806 bn takes second place in the Canadian ranking. Only two companies make it into the top ten in Europe: Leroy Merlin (US $ 1.579 bn) in France and Obi (US $ 281 mio) in Germany. No DIY retailer is included in the UK’s top ten, or in the group of the first five in Spain either.
