Vigorous expansion in Turkey

The number of DIY stores could increase by up to 30 outlets this year

This year could see the addition of up to 30 outlets for a total of 145 DIY stores in Turkey. This magnitude is the result of a survey conducted by the organisers Media Force of the Erem Group within the framework of the Turkish trade fair Home Improvement & DIY in Istanbul. Following the market entry of Leroy Merlin, a French DIY chain, another outlet might well be added this year. The survey also reveals that German retailers Bauhaus and Praktiker are planning further openings, as well as two local companies, Koçtas (in a joint venture with Kingfisher) and Tekzen. The Turkish market is characterised by around 350 relatively small specialist shops in addition to the larger DIY stores.
