The DIY and garden market in the UK just about held its ground in terms of volume last year, recording a decline of 0.2 per cent and a volume of £ 10.6 bn. Daniel Fearnley, business group director of the GfK market research company, nevertheless assesses 2010 as a “reasonable year for the DIY market” in view of the framework economic data. After all, the housing market, which is the biggest sales driver in this sector, was still continuing to struggle. Within the DIY market the paint segment was 1.0 per cent down by value, achieving a total of £ 790 mio. The sales volume here experienced a decline of 1.5 per cent.
