Last week saw the French DIY chain Leroy Merlin, which is part of the Adeo Group, bring its first store in Ukraine into operation. The official opening is scheduled for the beginning of December. As Alexei Revin, development director at Leroy Merlin Ukraina, explained last week to Interfax Ukraine, a news agency, the new store has 20 checkouts, a sales area of around 12 500 m² and 40 000 items in the product range. Revin had previously announced that the company was planning the opening of another store in Kiev for 2011. The site is located in the immediate vicinity of Epicentr and Nova Liniya, the big noises on the Ukrainian scene. The setting up of these two stores in Kiev nowhere near signifies the completion of Leroy Merlin’s development in Ukraine, however. Although the recently opened store has no competition to fear in the surrounding area, comments from customers suggest that it is not particularly convenient in terms of access.
