Last year Obi, the German market leader in DIY retailing, increased sales by 2.1 per cent to € 5.987 bn. As revealed by the annual report from parent company Tengelmann, this amounted to a slight sales decline in like-for-like terms. In the meantime 43.7 per cent of the group’s sales come from abroad, where the rates of increase were mainly higher as well. While the growth rate in Germany came to around 0.5 per cent, the figure was 6.4 per cent in Russia, for example, and 4.7 per cent in Italy.
