The beginning of September saw Metrika open three new stores at once in and around St Petersburg, which cemented the company’s claim to be the fastest-growing Russian DIY chain. The total number of branches rose to 24 as the result of these new openings. The company reports that nine of the 15 new openings scheduled for 2010 have already been completed. Managing director Alexei Jowlew stresses that increasing dynamism resulted in the sales figures in August 2010 already exceeding the results recorded for 2008, the year preceding the financial crisis, which now makes it possible to invest once again in increased expansion of the chain. The pace of growth is to be further stepped up in 2011. Metrika’s aim is to become the leading DIY retailer in the western part of Russia in the medium term.
