Metrika has opened its 20th store; it is concentrating its activities on the north-west of Russia

Metrika, the Russian DIY chain, has opened its 20th store in Velikue Luki, which means it has doubled its number of locations within a year. Ten more stores are to follow this year, and there are plans for a network of 50 outlets by the end of 2012.
The company's declared objective is to achieve market leadership in the north-western region of Russia. Founded in 2005, Metrika currently operates nine stores in St Petersburg. Last year it made a strategic decision to concentrate its expansion on cities with a population of more than half a million in the Russian north-west. The new stores, which have an average covered retail area of 2 000 m², are smaller than those in operation up to now.
