The Austrian DIY retailer, Baumax, is due to enter the Turkish market imminently in a move that was announced four years ago. In early March the company plans to open its first outlet in Turkey, a 15 000 m² store in Samsun, about 450 km north of Ankara on the Black Sea. Two stores are to follow in the course of this year, in Izmit and Istanbul. In the longer term the plans are for 30 stores to the west of Ankara with sales of € 600 mio. Baumax stresses the ecological construction of the new store, which uses a geothermal system for both heating and cooling.
