Kesko’s sales in the building materials and DIY retail business were more than 20 per cent down
Last year the Finnish Kesko Group recorded sales in the building materials and DIY retail division 22.3 per cent down on 2008. The division overall recorded sales amounting to € 2.3514 bn, of which € 1.0717 bn came from the group’s business in Finland (-21.0 per cent) and € 1.2797 bn was generated by the division abroad.
The rates of decline were less marked in December: 2.0 per cent down in Finland, and 9.3 per cent down abroad, or -15.1 per cent currency-unadjusted. At -40.2 per cent the loss of sales in the Baltic states was especially high. Business in Russia fell by 23.2 per cent at constant exchange rates, or by 10.7 per cent in terms of the national currency.
