A great number of DIY stores are scheduled to open in the Philippines next year

Globally active DIY retailers are planning to expand their operations in the Philippines aggressively in the next few years. Ace Philippines, a franchisee of the American Ace Hardware chain, intends to open 16 to 21 outlets to add to its existing 47 stores. Meanwhile Robinsons Handyman, the local franchisee of the American Handyman Do It Best company, is looking to add ten to 15 stores to its current total of 46 next year.
“We usually average five openings per year, but the official count for 2010 is six branches, while unofficially another ten branches are foreseen for Ace,” said Bernard Paul U Lim, Ace Philippines vice president operations. In the meantime Robinsons Handyman is also planning to open new stores in “under-served areas”, according to general manager Stanley Co.
