2008 was a year characterised by growth for the DIY retailers in Austria. A BHB-GfK report reveals that DIY stores with a minimum covered floorspace of 1 000 m² were able to increase their sales by 2.5 per cent to € 1.87 bn. Only a few product groups performed worse than the previous year: these included the categories of wood and plastic, as well as the electrical segment. In 2008 the per capita spend on DIY products in Austria rose by € 7 over the previous year to € 227.
