Italy’s DIY stores catch up

2008 brought sales growth of 4.8 per cent for their operators

The DIY sector in Italy is still continuing on its growth curve. The DIY and building stores achieved sales of just under € 3 bn in 2008, which represents an improvement of 4.8 per cent. This is revealed by a BHB/GfK report, which surveys DIY stores with a minimum covered sales area of 1 000 m². The months of April and May recorded some of the highest sales figures, each enjoying double-digit rates of growth. Per-capita spend came to € 48 in 2008, which amounts to a € 2 increase.
