The market for horticultural plants saw hardly any growth in 2008, but still reached a record level of € 3.965 bn. Estimates from the ZMP (a central market and price reporting agency) calculate that around € 3.175 bn at retail prices was spent on cut flowers in Germany, following a slight increase. A sales volume of € 1.800 bn left green and flowering indoor plants on a level with the 2007 result. However, though expenditure on flowering plants was slightly up, sales of green indoor plants were slightly down. Altogether German retailers sold flowers and plants to the value of € 8.940 bn last year. This indicates per capita consumption of about € 109, or one euro more than the previous year.
