Toomaxx, the buying cooperative consisting of Baumax from Austria, the Rewe Group (Toom/B1) from Germany and Coop from Switzerland, is to expand through the addition of the Finnish DIY group Rautakesko, which has 320 outlets and sales of € 3.9 bn. As Toomaxx explains in a press release, this will make the organisation the third-largest purchaser of DIY store products in Europe. Once the planned buying cooperative has been approved by the competition authorities, it will have under its umbrella around 900 DIY stores with total sales of € 8 bn. The cooperation between the companies covers international procurement projects, imports from East Asia, the development of private labels and inviting tenders for common product ranges.
