The European market for electrical garden tools grew by 11 per cent in terms of both value and volume in 2007. As computed by Bosch, sales came to an overall total of 13.7 mio electrically operated garden tools worth € 850 mio. The market grew by 10 per cent in western Europe, and by 22 per cent in eastern Europe. The market in Germany, Austria and Switzerland expanded by 14 per cent by value and 9 per cent by quantity. The large-format channels increased their sales by as much as 15 per cent, though the increase in terms of quantity was only 10 per cent. Bosch regards this as confirmation of the “trend towards branded articles” in the garden sector. In the German market, too, the sales volume (+14 per cent to € 268 mio) rose more strongly than the actual number of electrical garden tools sold (+9 per cent to 2.8 mio units).
