The German paint market experienced negative development in 2007

The German paint market experienced negative development in 2007. Both sales volume and sales value were down, by -3 per cent and -1 per cent respectively, according to figures from GfK Marketing Services Germany. Neither the paint specialists nor the DIY stores were able to achieve the previous year’s level of turnover. Sales in the biggest paint sector, emulsions, were down, losing 5 per cent in terms of volume and 2 per cent in terms of value. Metal paint completed the year 2007 with sales 4 per cent lower by volume and 3 per cent by value. The best result as calculated by GfK was recorded by the tinting sector, with 3 per cent growth by sales volume and 7 per cent by value.
