This year Praktiker will extend its international network of stores by up to 20 new locations in eight countries. The company opened one store in Poznan, Poland, and one in Istanbul, Turkey, in late February/early March. They are to be followed by at least five branches in Romania and three in Ukraine. Added to these will be new stores in Bulgaria, Greece, Poland and Albania, the latter being the group’s ninth international marketplace. In many countries Praktiker is breaking strategically new ground through building its own stores as an alternative to leased property, and developing a new small-store concept for regions with a lower population density. Around one-third of the planned new outlets are to follow the smaller store format (4 000 to 5 000 m²).
