Hornbach intends to add 13 more outlets to its network of branches by 2009, with up to eleven of these new openings to be located outside Germany. The current financial year has already seen the opening in Munich, Darmstadt, and in Alblasserdam in the Netherlands of new-generation, large-format stores complete with building materials drive-in facilities. These are to be followed in June by Bucharest and the group's first store in Romania. This will be the eighth European country in addition to Germany where Hornbach is actively involved. It is expected that the proportion of turnover contributed by the international stores will increase from the current 36 per cent to more than 40 per cent over the next few years. The Hornbach Group intends to double its turnover to € 5 bn by 2016.
