Wels is the location where, on 16 May 2007, Baumax opened its first DIY store equipped with a heat pump as an alternative source of energy. The Austrian market leader regards this as a significant step in the direction of active climate protection. According to information from the group's head office in Klosterneuburg, the new plant will allow CO2 emissions to be reduced by 75 per cent, which amounts to around 100 000 kg of CO2 annually. The resulting annual reduction of operating costs by around € 20 000 means the amortisation period will come to seven years.
