Wyevale, the number one chain of garden centres in the United Kingdom with a total of 120 branches, has made a commitment to environmental protection, where it intends to set an example for the entire market, according to a report from the British online news service www.gardenforum.co.uk. Climate-neutral working practices by 2010, purchasing only wood and wood products certified by the FSC or TFT from 2009, and doing without peat and products containing peat from 2010 at the latest are some examples of the goals the garden centre operator has set itself to achieve. Wyevale has already decided to phase out gas-operated patio heaters from its product range. The company intends to draw up a comprehensive plan of action in consultation with environmental groups, suppliers and customers by autumn 2007.
