The Praktiker Group sees good opportunities for growth in 2007, both at home and abroad; the company intends to become number one in Germany

Praktiker expects to increase group sales – including Max Bahr – to more than € 4 bn in the 2007 financial year. "This is going to be a year of new departures and of investment," says Wolfgang Werner, CEO of Praktiker Bau –und Heimwerkermärkte Holding AG. "We're going to step up the pace of expansion abroad and stir up the market at home together with Max Bahr. Our aim is to become number one in Germany."
There are plans for 15 to 20 new openings abroad this year, as well as for the expansion of existing stores. Two or three stores are to be opened in Poland, and one or two in Turkey. Two new outlets each are envisaged for Bulgaria, Hungary and Greece. Praktiker will produce its fastest rate of expansion in Romania, with four or five new openings there. There are also plans to enter the Ukrainian market this year with two or three stores.
