The Rewe Group increased its aggregate sales by 4.2 per cent to € 43.5 bn in the 2006 financial year. For the 262 national specialist stores (Toom Baumarkt, Promarkt) the group reports sales 1.2 per cent down to € 1.7 bn. In the words of the company, however, the operating result has made "solid forward progress". "Over and above the organic growth, Toom Baumarkt is endeavouring to further consolidate its market position by acquisitions and cooperative agreements," explained Josef Sanktjohanser, chairman of the Rewe Group. According to information from within the industry, the Marktkauf DIY retail division is imminently due to be taken over by Rewe.
