Lowe's has announced its intention to expand its business to Mexico as part of the company's long-term growth strategy. It intends to open between three and five stores in Monterrey in 2009. A sum of US $ 18 – 20 mio is expected to be invested per store. Francisco Fernandez, vice president of Lowe's Mexico, has responsibility for the expansion here. Mexico is to be Lowe's second foreign commitment: the opening of six to ten stores in Canada, in the Toronto metropolitan area, has already been announced for this coming autumn.
