Gardena has purchased its longstanding distributor in Greece outright and will henceforth be represented there by its own distribution company. The company, which is headquartered in Athens, is retaining the name of Agrokip-Psomadopoulos. George Psomodopoulos, 57, the former owner, still holds the position of sole managing director. Agrokip has been Gardena's distributor since 1979. According to information from Gardena, the German garden equipment specialist is the only brand supplier in Greece, where it has a strong market share, especially when it comes to computerised watering control and the micro-drip system. "We still see great potential for growth in south-east Europe, and we also note that DIY stores are continuing to expand here as a channel of distribution," is how regional director Tobias M. Koerner sums up the situation.
