The British garden centre operator Wyevale bows to pressure from animal rights organisation

The British garden centre operator Wyevale is to stop selling live animals, according to a report in the trade journal “pbsnews”. The company is to restructure this segment and concentrate instead on pet food and accessories. One factor influencing Wyevale’s decision to cease sales of live animals in 51 of its 115 stores was the 16-month protest campaign waged by the biggest animal rights organisation in the UK, Animal Aid. A three-year campaign by the organisation also brought the sale of pets by the DIY chain Focus to an end in 2003.
