Retail sales up by 3.3 per cent like-for-like

Canadian Tire's retail sales in the second quarter rose by 5.3 per cent on the same period last year to C $ 2.06 bn (€ 1.44 bn). The like-for-like sales increase comes to 3.3 per cent. According to the company, this sales growth is mainly attributable to increases in the product categories of automotive accessories and gardening. Pre-tax profit rose by 6.2 per cent to C $ 92.2 mio (€ 64.6 mio). Two new stores were opened in the second quarter and 34 were revamped. What is more, the company has announced the building of a distribution centre of 150 000 m² in Quebec to safeguard further growth in the west of Canada. The foundation stone is scheduled to be laid in the autumn.
For the first six months Canadian Tire has disclosed retail sales of C $ 3.27 bn (€ 2.29 bn), which amounts to an increase of 5.1 per cent over the previous year. Pre-tax profit rose in this period over the previous year by 16.4 per cent to C $ 136.4 mio (€ 95.5 mio).
