Praktiker fired the starting pistol for the first six stores adapted to the new easy-to-shop concept on 31 July. Presuming that this concept proves successful, a further 50 stores are to be adapted in 2007, followed by an additional 100 in 2008. The concept is based on the academic premise that customers feel overtaxed by an overly large selection of products and often tend to put off making purchases for this reason. Which is why the new concept works with a considerably reduced range of products that is graded into three price classes. "However, we are still quite definitely full-line distributors," said chairman Wolfgang Werner with great emphasis at a press conference in Gerlingen. Further key points are a clear store layout with broad aisles and a presentational style that is largely self-explanatory. The locations of the first six stores are Gerlingen near Stuttgart, Weingarten, Wolfen, Chemnitz-Wittgensdorf, Essen and Delmenhorst.
