Green market up overall

24.04.2006

The German garden market showed growth of around one per cent last year. This was partly due to the hardware range, which compensated for setbacks in certain plant segments

The garden market achieved a volume of € 8.941 bn in 2005, excluding cut flowers. This figure comes from a study, "Gardens 2006 – market and consumers", published recently by BBW Marketing of Neuss. An increase of just on 1.1 per cent is revealed by comparison with 2004. However, this growth mainly comes from the garden hardware segment, which has expanded by 2.6 per cent to a market volume of € 3.258 bn. Pot plants, bedding plants and balcony plants also notched up growth, as did bio-chemical products for the garden. The figures published by the BBW differ slightly in detail from the statistics of the IVG. (Association of Manufacturers of Garden Products).
