The new Polish Prime Minister Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz has plans for a development plan law that should put the brakes on expansion by foreign retail groups for the benefit of domestic operators, according to the German “Wirtschaftswoche” journal. Parliament is currently also discussing a law that will prevent the construction of large-format stores in the vicinity of small towns, the report continues. Although Poland is open for the investment of foreign capital, Marcinkiewicz is quoted as saying, care is to be taken to ensure a balance between the advantages of large-format stores and small shops.
